This morning a (newly made) friend (Serge) and I drove all the way to "Zeeuws Vlaanderen" through Belgium to pick it up on my friends trailer. We strung the trailer behind my LR Discovery and Serge had to drive the Discovery. I don't have the appropriate license to drive with this bigass trailer. The seller (Robert) helped us prepare for the trip and stocked us up with a lot of spare parts.
Technically the series is in good condition. Originally from the UK and still has the steering wheel on the right side.. I kinda like it that way, so I guess we'll let that be. The chassis has been restored in the UK by the previous owner who then sold it to Robert about three years ago. (Robert, correct me if I'm wrong when you're reading this). The chassis is solid and all the outriggers and front/back end supports (dunno the proper names yet) are newly welded on. It has a good diesel engine in it which didn't run for 3 years, we connected it to the battery and with one click it started, no hesitations whatsoever, just run! Magnificent!!
As I said, technically its okay, but it's in bits and pieces. Robert unfortunately didn't have the time to put it back together properly and knocked a big chunk off of the price so that I can put it back together myself.
The idea for this project is to build/restore it in two Phases:
Phase 1: Getting to know the car
I want to achieve this by just trying to assemble the car so it can be driven and checked so I'm allowed to drive it on the open road.
Phase 2: Full Restoration
This phase depends on Phase 1, I've never owned a Landrover this old and i'll probably love it and want to keep it in the family to pass it off to my children (when and if they come) but you never know. And Phase 1 is so that we can deside to keep /make it an original, or to make it cool looking, hardcore (with all the series features offcourse) but so it can and will be primarily used for offroad experience. My bet is on the latter.
Allright, now to show you some pics!
